Men's and Women's Basketball Head to SW Region Tournament

Men's and Women's Basketball Head to SW Region Tournament

Dallas, Tx - Small college basketball seasons all over the country are wrapping up regular season play and heading into post-season mode. For the men's and women's basketball teams at Dallas Christian College there is no exception. Both teams are heading to Arlington Baptist University this Thursday through Saturday (February 21-23) for the NCCAA SW Regional Tournament. On the women's side the Lady Crusaders finished the season with a mark of 8-13 overall and 3-2 mark in region play. This finish puts them as the #3 seed in the tournament and they will play the #2 seed Arlington Baptist University Lady Patriots at 5:00 PM in the tournament semi-finals on Friday February 22nd. The Lady Crusaders are paced in scoring by junior guard Trish Daily at 17.9 ppg and sophomore forward Shabria Walters at 15.4 ppg. Walters also leads the team in rebounding at better than 8 per game. The benchmark for the Lady Crusaders this season has been on the defensive end of the floor as they've held conference opponents to less than 35% shooting from the field while also holding them under 24% from behind the arc.

Should the Lady Crusaders win on Friday night they'll advance to the Southwest Region Championship Game against the winner of the #1 seed Randall University vs #4 seed Manhattan Christian College matchup. The women's championship game will be played on the campus of ABU at 1:00 pm on Saturday February, 23rd. The winner of the region tournament will advance to the NCCAA National Championships in Greenville, SC March 7-9.

On the men's side of the bracket the Crusaders have experienced a frustrating season that has seen them upset #6 ranked Kansas Christian College at home and fall on senior night to unranked Champion Christian College. The uneven play has led the Crusaders to the #5 seed in the SW Region Tournament where they'll match up with #4 seed Manhattan Christian College on Thursday Feb 21st at 5:00 pm. Should the Crusaders win they'll advance to the semi-finals on Friday and play the winner of #1 Randall University and #8 Central Christian College of the Bible at 3:00 pm. The championship would then be played on Saturday February 23rd at 3:00 pm. The Crusaders have been paced in scoring this season by seniors Chance Houston and Hunter Bennett at 19.7 ppg and 17.0 ppg respectively. Newcomer Maguire Bailey and senior Hunter Bennett have led the team in rebounding at 9.4 rpg and 6.8 rpg. The key for the Crusaders this season has been shooting the basketball. In a year in which that has become difficult in games where the Crusaders shoot above 40% from the field they are 6-3 while in games where they've shot less than 40% from the field they've failed to find the victors circle.

Should the Crusaders win the regional tournament they'll advance to the NCCAA National Championships for a second straight season March 7-9 in Greenville, SC.
