Dallas, Tx - Post-season play has arrived for the boys of spring as the 2019 NCCAA Central Region Tournament seeds and schedule has been released. Southwestern Christian University in Oklahoma City will host the double elimination tournament at both Eagle Field and Palmer Field at Dolese Park (5105 NW 50th St. Oklahoma City, Ok 73122) beginning Monday May 13, 2019 at 12:00 pm. Dallas Christian College has been seeded 6th based on the NCCAA power rating and will open tournament play at 12:00 pm on Palmer field against Victory Athletic Conference champions, Ecclesia College. During the regular season the Crusaders dropped 4 of 5 contests to the Royals picking up their only win in the series opener on March 29th. In that game DCC saw JT Berry throw five innings and give up only two earned runs while senior Gabe Benza went 2 for 3 with a double and a homerun, knocking in three runs. The boys in cardinal red would drop the next three contests.
Should the Crusaders win their first round game against Ecclesia College they would advance to take on the #2 seed, College of the Ozarks, at 3:00 pm on Palmer Field. In the event of a loss DCC would play again on May 14th at 12:00 pm and would need to come up through the losers bracket, without losing another game, to win the region tournament.
While DCC had a slow start to the season they were able to finish the year 9-7 in conference play, good enough to finish third in the conference standings. Junior Jacob Patlan led the Crusaders in hitting by posting a .419 OBP and a .336 Avg. Senior Cameron Henderson led the team with four homeruns and 28 RBI's. On the mound Benza and Berry led the team in ERA while junior Ruggeri Thomas was a workhorse pitching a team high 44 innings and striking out 34 batters.
