Dallas, Tx - There's no place like home. That saying will ring true for the 2018 version of the DCC Men's Soccer team on Saturday as they play host to the defending SW Regional Champions, Kansas Christian College (2-3-1), at 12:00 pm. After opening the season with three straight road trips this home match will be especially important as it is also the first region contest of the year and will play towards regional tournament seeding.
"We are excited to be home," said Coach Uyokpeyi. "This is an opportunity to play on our own turf and to take on the defending region champions. We should know a lot more about who we are as a team when it's all said and done."
Also playing into this matchup is that it will be a rematch of last seasons region championship game. A game in which a talented Kansas Christian squad came in and controlled for 90 minutes before winning 6-0 and securing a trip to the NCCAA National Championships in Greenville, Sc. That loss has stuck with the returning Crusaders like sophomore Forward Dago Fuentes, "That game was frustrating. After an emotional win in the semi-finals we went into the championship game believing we could win. We didn't play our best and we are looking forward to seeing how we stack up with KCC this Saturday." The 2017 region championship match favored KCC as they doubled the Crusaders in Shots and controlled possession for more than 60 minutes of the match.
Kansas Christian College is currently ranked #7 in the nation and is coming off a 4-1 victory over NCCAA opponent, Calvary University, in Kansas City. KCC is currently led in scoring by forward Kadar Ali with two goals while Humam Mustafa leads the team with 11 saves in two games played. The Crusaders are led by freshman Angel Quintero with one goal in two games. Julian Cardenas has held the backline with 36 saves over the course of two matches. This matchup will be played on the campus of Dallas Christian College on Saturday September 15, 2018 at 12:00 pm.
